Traditional Wet Shaving & More!
I’ve seen classic wet shaving pop up in a couple of recent commercials on TV! I just saw this ad for Carbonite online backup; what would you do with all the free time automated computer backup saved you? Get a hot towel shave from a barber, of course!
Bank of America also has a commercial currently airing about their Cash Rewards program which also depicts a barbershop shave. The scene shows a guy in a barbershop as he explains how he gets cash back by using his BofA credit card; the barber chair behind him shows a man getting a hot towel shave. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find this video online.
Even Gillette, whose current crop of multiblade cartridge razors are at odds with traditional wet shaving, is using classic wet shaving imagery (a straight razor) in the commercial below.
It has been mentioned on other blogs, Skyfall, the next James Bond film, shows a scene of 007 getting a straight razor shave. (About 2:12 in trailer)
On American TV, Don Draper, the main character on the popular AMC series Madmen, has been shown wet shaving–even getting a badger shaving brush as a birthday present.
On British TV, the BBC detective/serial killer series Whitechapel, showed main character DI Joseph Chandler wet shaving in the series 3 finale. (series trailer below)
